The toughness and the stamina of the women fisher folks in the city of Dipolog were tested last May 25, 2005, 5:30 in the afternoon, in a “Lumba sa Binigiw” (Small Boat Race).

Lumba sa Binigiw officials get on board their assigned boats to supervise the boat race competition.

Nineteen women from barangay Olingan, Galas, Miputak and Barra joined the said event wherein, Elma Catacutan from Olingan got the 1st Place with the cash prize worth P2,000. The 2nd Place went to Estela Lapiz also from Olingan and received P1,000 in cash courtesy of Mayor Somera of Abra who was the guest of honor in the said event, while Lolita Elico another contestant from Olingan landed the 3rd spot with a cash prize worth P500.

It would seem that Barangay Olingan was blessed with very well-determined women as they all got the major prizes. In this connection, the Local Government of Dipolog headed by Mayor Roberto Y. Uy gave P100 each to the non-winners as consolation prizes.
